Where does this go?

Hey guys, I was changing my oil pressure sending unit today and I noticed this connector, with purple and yellow wires coming out of it was not connected to anything. It comes off a wire bundle on the drivers side of my transmission. Any ideas where it goes, or if it's even needed? Haven't noticed any difference in my car so I'm curious if it's even needed.

I tried to stretch it out and see where it might lead to, but found nothing.

It certainly does look like it but, the camaro didn't have a vss/electric speedo until '90 when the dash changed.
A way out there guess would be that maybe your car got a harness intended for a 'bird since they had electric speedos starting in '86 (iirc). But, even then, there would have to be enough wire to reach the tail end of the transmission.

Re: Where does this go?

Could it be the plug for the cold start switch on top of the engine ?

Re: Where does this go?

Would that explain why my car doesn't like to start or stay running in the cold? If so where would I find the cold start switch, other then on top of the engine ? I do not have cruise control Scorpner.

I could see blue and green fading to purple and yellow. You don't have a lot of wires going to a cable driven 700, TCC and reverse lights is about it.

edit: just realised the autos don't have the reverse light switch on the trany, so I am going to go with torque converter lock up.

I thought those had 3 wires on a 4 prong connector ? It's been quite some time since I had my auto camaro and donated the trans to my friends '72 truck.

Ha, I'm in that boat. It has been some time since I had an Auto, I can't remember if the TCC was 2 wires or not. I do remember the last time I took the power train out I had a 2 prong wire pinched between the trans and the bellhousing . It was the TCC so was no longer of any use, different connector end than the one in these pics also IIRC.

Perhaps deadbird is correct and you have a firebird wiring harness, it does look like a VSS connector, but like he said it would need to reach the tailshaft.

This is correct I was thinking of the coolant temp switch style plug . I would have to jack my car up to look at the VSS plug and wire colors to compare .

Re: Where does this go?

Its VSS and camaros didnt have this until 90 when the electronic speedo were introduced. Its also the 89 and older style connector

Is it possible your engine/harness are not original to your car?

Re: Where does this go?

I'm not for sure if the engine/harness have ever been replaced. I don't have a lot of past history as far as previous owners as to whats been done. i've only had the car for almost three years now.
