I believe the '85 TPIs still used the large cap distributors. Any 82-86(ish) LG4 would have that dist. as well. If I'm not mistaken, it's also the same cap used on any pre-ECM (81-older), HEI distributors.
You basically have two choices, a large cap with a coil in it, or a small one with seperate coil (86ish-up).
I could be easily wrong but, I think any of the 'vette TPI motors had alum heads and the EGR valve was not under the plenum either.

well thats a pic of the dist cap im looking for cuz the one i have is a cap with the coil to the side.... and the wires i have hanging around near the cap and coil are pink with black strip and white. my main problem is i have 12 volts going into the coil and the wire becomes hot when key is turned but i get no spark at the coil. it has a new cap, pick up coil, coil, and control module was tested 5 times and it passed, so im thinkin its the wrong coil/dist cap set up on my car

You'd have the wrong distributor then. The caps are not interchangeable between the the two styles of distributors.

The deck stamp is next-to-useless. The 638 on the side of the block means the complete casting number will be 14093638. It's a 1 piece RMS 350 block.
