I'm no expert on the V6 cars - but on most 3rd gens the entire pass side wiring harness can 'go away' as that tends to be all the ECM wiring for the sensors that you'll no longer be using.
I recommend to everyone to tuck it all into the fenderwell, that way you'll have it just in case, and also you can make use of the wires later (like for manual fan on/off switches etc) as you already have a nicely bundled weatherproof supply of wires there from cabin to engine bay.

Agree with camaronewbie. I have an 85 5.0 L FB and converting from ECM Carb to full mechanical. Actually, removing the entire ECM harness and ECM (Passenger side harness)is quite easy (store in a box in your garage). Just disconnnect sensor leads, uplug from ECM (under dash passenger side) and remove entire harness through slot. ECM held on with two screws easily removed after disconnecting pigtails to fuse box. You can actually see your engine afterwards and do simple things like change spark plugs and valve cover gaskets. Mine not reassembed yet cause I'm doing simple rebuild of my engine and tranny. Wiring diagrams still available through Auto Zone (you need to free register for access). So far seems pretty straight forward, but keep in mind you will need to change to a non-computer carb, non-emissions headers, and mechanical vacuum distributor. Many have been done this way and discussed in these forums.

Probably quite correct. I feel I lucked out finding a FB with the Computer Carb, rather than the EFI.....which undoubtedly is more complex. And in truth, I haven't researched the EFI systems carefully for that reason. I did, however, purchase an actual "GM Shop Manual" from Amazon.com ($30 used). Comparably, the wiring diagrams on auto zone are not only correct, but much easier to understand that the 200 pages of diagrams, componant locations, connector numbers, and erroneous page number errors found in the shop manual. Only advantage to the shop manual....the pictures. However, I'd still be willing to bet that a conversion from EFI to manual carb free of all the ECM harnesses could be done without a degree in electrical engineering! But then what do I know about anything?
