Charging system wont work

Ok guys 88 camaro swapped 305. The car will not charge the battery at all. Two new alternators a new battery and it still wont charge. Wires are tight on the alternator and the battery. Fuses are all good in the fuse box. Please guys help me thanks. Oh I dont know if this will have anything to do with it or not the tail lights do not work the fuse is blown in the fuse box and continues to blow ever time i turn the head lights on. Thanks

Re: Charging system wont work

Check your fuseable links. There is a voltage sensing wire at the starter and it has a fusable link. Normally when bad the wire burns away but the link can get corroded inside and give a bad connetion. Pull on it a bit to make sure it does not come apart. And there should be two links and a battery cable on the large lug of the starter. Also there may be a fusable link between the alternator and the battery. If thats fried then it wont charge at all. Look for a junction block with a few links on it. May just start with the link between the alternator and battery as its easier to check than the ones on the starter.

The tail lights should be another issue. I'm pretty sure the headlight switch no longer excites the alternator.
