Electronic Pull Down Latch

Not too long ago my back latch in my '91 firebird stopped opening via the internal switch and even when it's opened manually with my key it latches shut but wont pull down. The road noise is getting old and when it rains or i get the car washed sometimes water comes in and once the back well even filled up a bit. I also have a pair of subs that i am eager to install and this puts me at risk for water damage and theft, anyone have any input on what the problem is and how i can fix it? If its just the relay or the motor lemme know cuz i can do that no problem.

First visually check the ACC and LID fuses.

Then using a voltmeter or test light
(the type for testing for voltage, not a continuity tester) probe both sides of each fuse.

Is there power on all 4 places?

Make sure the ground wire for it is making good ground contact.

Then probe for power at the
dark blue wire at the 4 wire connector that plugs into the unit.

There needs to be power there regardless of the igy key position etc.

If there is power there, disconnect power from the unit, then disconnect the 4 pin connector, then using an ohmmeter probe between where the
dark blue wire connected, and where the brown wire connected, and note the reading.

Now reverse the ohmmeter probes on those contacts, and note the reading.

On those 2 readings one should be higher than the other.

If you get infinity both readings, either the latch sensing diode is bad, or the motor is bad, or there is a bad connection to it inside the unit.

Good Reading Material

If the readings are OK the unit should work at least as far as pulling the lid down therefore you can take those readings and report.
