HELP!! I started my 89 Camaro the other morning and I am stumped. It has been idling rough (runs great once you get going). I started it to get the frost off the windshield and when I went out 10 minutes later the parking lights were still on but the engine had quit. I went to start it again and I have NO DASH LIGHTS OR RADIO. Headlights work but DASH AND RADIO don't. I have checked all the fuses in the fuse box and audio alarm section. All fuses are good. The only thing I don't know about is the 2 silver relays(?) in the fuse box. Don't know what they go to and my C manual doesn't say. The VATS and all applicable engine related fuses are good.

HELP!! This is my second vehicle for me to get to work and I need to try to get it running fast!! Thanks, ahead, for any input!!

By "won't crank" do you mean the starter will not do anything, or the starter runs but motor won't start?

Does starter click rapidly? Need battery charged or new battery

Can you hear fuel pump prime when key turned?

 

It's a good idea to check the fusable link at the starter too, Same thing happened to my dad's Monte.

 

Right now I have run into the same problem car wont do anything havent checked the radio or lights tho

 

When I turn the key, motor doesn't turn over. Don't hear the fuel pump, but I am hard of hearing as it is. I did have the dash lights go out on me on the way to work one morning, only the odometer light worked. Then I put gas in the car and the lights all worked again when I started it back up. Thanks for the replies... keep em coming. I will look at using the ones I have so far...

 

I found the problem. It was around the starter. I looked at the fusible links around the starter and one of them had a brown gook coming out of it. When I touched it with the voltage meter to try and penetrate the wire, the wire just crumbled on me. So I am in the middle of replacing the fusible link. Keep your fingers crossed!!!

 

It worked... I rebuilt my fusible link and connected it to the existing wire and my camaro fired first time. Thanks for all the input. Mission complete!!

 

I know this thread is old but my IROC just did this yesterday. Headlights work, no dash lights, no radio, no crank.I got home from work and just as I was backing my car up to park EVERYTHING died. Headlights work and so does the interior dome light.

 

What happened when you already tried the same thing that fixed the same problem in the post you replied to asking the same question? Did that help?
