I know which one youre talking about, theres a thread buried around here somwhere for it, a thorough search would probably dig it up...

Re: 5 speed gear selector/shift light
It wasnt a kit he bought...its something he made himself from a pile of parts and some electronic know-how. It sounds to me like he doesnt want everyone doing the same thing and having something he thought up and made for his car on every other 3rd gen. My suggestion would be to find someone local who knows electronics and talk to them about doing something similar.

I doubt anyone makes anything plug and play like this for our cars. Like i said, if you seriously want this in your car, talk to an electronics guy. Its just a few parts, some know-how and a little work.

Re: 5 speed gear selector/shift light
It really wouldn't be hard, you would have to set up a bracket system with 6 press switches. The easiest thing to do would be to wire each switch with 12V, and then the other side of each switch to a panel of lights behind a shadowed window with 1 2 3 4 5 R. On the other side of those lights, ground it out. Simplest thing to do really (i'm over simplifying the engineering of the brackets/switches), and I would also recommend maybe a 5A fuse, maybe 10A if it ever blows for no reason, the bulbs shouldn't take much.
And no, they don't make a kit for our cars, but if you have done the searching for it, then there is a possibility that there isn't a kit. I'm not sure.
What i'd like to do if I had the electrical know how, would be use a I believe LED screen, the calculator type screen with the single digit you can get at radio shack, program it to automatically be N if there is no signal, and then use the 6 press switches to do a 1 2 3 4 5 R. That I think would be cool, but of course i'd have to add a 6 :-D

Sorry you didn't get my last PM response, I did reply on 03-13-2011... it read:
Nothing off the shelf that you can buy that I know of. I may look at the possibility of making kits, as I've had a few people interested. If I ever do I'll let you know.

Re: 5 speed gear selector/shift light
Here's a quick summary of the project.
As far as the indicator goes:
Here is a picture of the plate and switches that are mounted to my hurst shifter:

Each of the 4 switches is an input to a PIC microcontroller. The PIC determines the stick location from the switches.
I'm using a seven segment LED display for the indicator. I made 7 outputs (abcdefg) on the PIC for each LED segment.
So when the stick is in first gear, switches 1 and 4 will be activated. The PIC microcontroller is programmed to determine that this condition is 1st gear, and turns on outputs b and c to display a "1".
If you're in third gear, only switch 4 is activated, and the PIC outputs a b c d g to display a "3".

Reverse will display a small "r" and I've left neutral blank.
That's the easy part. As far as the blinking shift light function, a 12v tach signal and some coding is used to determine the RPM. The display is flashed above a pre-determined RPM value.
I designed the circuit board traces in AutoCAD and etched the board at home:

I used MPLAB IDE to program the PIC:

Again, there are no kits available to do this that I know of, but I hope this points you in the right direction.
Regards,
Colin
