choke wiring problem

Hay everyone. I'm a new member and new to car repair as well. Any advice would be much appreciated. If any one can help me out that would be great thanks.
I drive an 1985 Camaro sports coupe 5.0 4bbl e4me electric choke. The other day I started up my car fine then I noticed the check engine light went off so o checked under the Hood. I found that the electric choke connector that feeds it voltage became disconnected. So I reached over to grab to reinsert it but when I did that I accedently touched a metal service to the exposed tip of the wire on the cable, the small metal fitting that attaches itself to the choke had fallen off. So the wire sparked and I shut off the car, reinserted the wire and turned the car on. I noticed that the choke engine light was on and sounding and wont go away only if I disconnected the cable that gives the choke power. It also seems that when connected the Carb runs bad as if the choke does not work properly. I cheched the cable with a 12 v reader it says there is voltage but I'm not sure how much. Any advice thanks for reading.
