VERY Strange Issue

So my fuel gauge reads past full almost all the time. This is not the strange part yet. So the problem is that when I make a right turn the gauge starts to work, but as soon as I straighten out the turn and drive forward the gauge quits working again and goes past full. This only happens when making a right. Never a left or stopping or accelerating.
Does anyone know what may be the issue or has anyone ever seen or heard of this. I find it quite strange. Thanks in advance.

Re: VERY Strange Issue

what gauge are you referring to? My volt gauge moves a little when my turn signal is on and my fuel gauge moves when I turn, that's just how these cars are and is fairly common. Don't count on any of the gauges being really accurate either.

Re: VERY Strange Issue

Sorry edited. My Fuel gauge. It reads way past full no matter how much fuel is in the tank, only moves when turning right though.

Re: VERY Strange Issue

Sounds like a bad sending unit, but I could be wrong. Mine reads past full for the first 60 some miles and then plummets from there it seems all the way to 230+ miles.

Re: VERY Strange Issue

The sender is actually a float on an arm just like in the back of your toilet. Part of it could be stuck, or not fastened properly so it hits something, etc. Some day, whenthe fuel pump dies and you drop the tank, you'll know why.

Re: VERY Strange Issue

sounds to me like the in-tank float is cracked and sunk or the arm is stuck up hence when you turn is will raise it all the way or fall down

Re: VERY Strange Issue

So i pulled the tank out the other day and found the problem. The wire for the fuel level gauge had come off the attachment point. So I assume it would make contact when I turned and hence start working. I had a new sending unit in the garage so I just replaced the whole thing.

Re: VERY Strange Issue

How does the gauge react now? I hate how my gauge works.

Re: VERY Strange Issue

I put in the Spectre replacement and it works great. Stays on full for about 60 miles then starts coming down. Doesn't bounce or move. Just slowly moves towards empty as I drive. I haven't seen if empty on the gauge is accurate or not. I fill up with about a 1/4 tank left. So at about the 240-260 mile range.
