I just bought a 87 z28 with a 305 carb and i was just looking over the engine
and by the battery i found these wires if anyone has any suggestions of what they might be for please let me know. all I know is is that my wipers and air/heater wont turn on so i \m curious as to if these wires are responsible. thanks.

mine doesnt have fog lights though, well whatever is the previous owner wasnt gentle about takin it out and was lazy about it because half my gauges dont work and there is cut wires uder the steerin wheel so im just tryin to figure out what is what.

 

my guess would be it had an after market alarm on it and or a cheap sound system and those where the amp main power wires or it may have had both and when they cut it all out they may have cut factory wires and not know it

as for cut wires under the steering wheel most alarms hook in line to the main ignition switch wires to kill power and they just took alarm out and hooked the wires back up

just my guess anyone else

 

yeah that sounds probably right because my father in law who owns a car lot pointed out that there used to be an alarm system so at some point back in the day someone did cherish it lol.

 

Since you have things that don't work - have you connected 12v+ to those wires to see if it makes them work again?

Those wires might be someone's idea of replacing bad fusible links - since they are all red, and have a fuse inline in each wire. Maybe a PO had a blown fusible link and used those wires to replace.

There's no need for any aftermarket alarm system to have more than one fuse - and the fuse it would have would be much better hidden to keep a thief from just pulling the fuse. So I don't think that has anything to do with any alarm. It's not factory - but it might be needed.

 

yeah soon as i get some decent tires on it im takin to a shop so they can take a look at the wires in the picture and the wires down by the pedals
