Battery Crapped Out, replacement?

My battery finally crapped out as it was old. It is now time for a replacement. I'm not sure if I should shell out for an Optima Yellow top or would another type of battery suffice for now. I have used the search function and have seen people complain about the el cheapo batteries. I don't have any audio upgrades yet, just a Viper alarm. I would also like to know about any stores that offer good warranty service in case the battery goes dead again. I'm just trying to figure the in's and out's and any suggestions would be helpful, thanks in advance.

Yellow tops are heavy and deep cell. Unless you need the ability for it to run down empty and zapped back to full deep cells are overkill. From seeing the size of an yellow top I doubt it would fit in the battery tray. I'd suguest just getting a battery with a good warranty from your local parts store. Also for a little extra you could get one with side posts and top posts if you need extra connections.

Re: Battery Crapped Out, replacement?

Just go with a good local auto store battery. I'm running a Gold from advance, nice battery, about $80.

Optima ... maybe if you had a huge a$$ stereo system cranking a ton of watts, I could see it. Otherwise, waste of money in a passenger vehicle.

Now a 4x4 that actually gets trail use - that's another story! I've seen plenty of guys break an axle housing or something, and using jumper cables off their Optima and a welding rod, make good strong weld repairs right in the woods. I had a redtop in my previous 4x4, and my alternator belt broke 100 miles from home - that redtop took me home at night with radio, heater, and lights on - and craked just fine the next day for a trip to the auto store to grab a new belt. They are hard-core batteries, but these days you pay dearly for them.

My red top was awesome. Lasted 10 years until the alt in my 91 took a dive and even at the age of my optima, still went 10 miles to get me home and lasted another 3 months.

Re: Battery Crapped Out, replacement?

Thanks for the responses guys. I ended up taking a different route as far as securing a battery goes. My buddy was telling me he bought a refurbished battery from a near-by Interstate Battery distributor. His battery has held up for 2 years and he has purchased a few other batteries that have panned out from there as well. I may get some frowns for this, but I am going to try them out. They do come with the same factory warranty so I guess it's worth a try.

Re: Battery Crapped Out, replacement?

Had a change of heart at the last minute. My buddy was telling me about Everstart Maxx at Walmart, and the nearest one had the one I needed for $80 plus tax. The warranty service will be easier through them in case the Camaro starts going through batteries.

Re: Battery Crapped Out, replacement?

I read somewhere that the Everstart Maxx is one of the best batteries out there right now. Good score.

Re: Battery Crapped Out, replacement?

I had a couple of optimas and all of them failed with next to no miles on them, connected to battery tenders in cars sitting in the shop. These are the biggest POS batteries out there. Never again! They cost 210 euros here, almost 300$ and I currently have 900$ worth of Red Top paperweights here now

Best battery i ever had was an Interstate Mega-Tron, that sucker just didn't want to die even after being drained completely and zapped back to lie multiple times (used it for a remote starter setup)
