What do I need to convert my 82 T/A to power mirrors and power pull down hatch
Hey guys ! Hope all is well
I have my 82 Trans Am without power mirrors and a power hatch. I was wondering what items I would need, like a harness and so on to convert it to power. I would like to install the power pull down hatch off the 91-92 Firebird.
Any help would be great, thank you very much

Hey guys, I went over my 82 Trans Am again. So it doesn't have a fog light setup,no power mirrors or a power hatch. I was wondering what kind of harness I would need off an old Firebird and what type ? Dash harness, some kind of interior harness -? Any help would be great, thanks

For the pull down hatch I would get as much of the wiring as possible. Assuming that the pull down motor assembly will bolt in properly in the 82 you will need the key cylinder for that set up as it is different than from the 82. The trunk lock for 91-92 etc has a plastic spacer that needs to come off and then it can bolt on in place of yours. If this plastic spacer is not taken off the 82 center section will hit on the lock.
I have not dealt with mine much except in that little way. Haven't looked at a 82 to know more. The other thing is that the trunk back plastic will need to be changed or as I am doing with a custom carpeted one from an early (84?) Camaro I am cutting the top hole out bigger to work.
Sorry I can't help any more.
As for the power mirrors you need everything from the switch to the mirrors. All the wiring harness, mirrors switches all of it. Then after running the wiring determine where the switch will work for you and mount it. 91-92 mounted on the shifter plate.
Somewhere on that harness it will have a wire for power and some ground wires. I would fuse them and wire to an ignition hot only wire or fuse block. Also be very careful with the wiring and be sure that they worked before you took them off the donor car.

I once looked at putting a pull down hatch in my 82 Trans Am. Not sure what year I got my pulldown from, but it physically wouldn't bolt into the car without some modification to the car. I just settled for an electronic hatch release.

After I first responded I read somewhere here that the whole metal support would have to be swapped out for the pull down to fit properly so this is verification.

Hey 91 ! Thanks for the tip on the pull-down,I did some more research on the forums, and it look like those 91-92 pull-down mechanism are nothing but problems, so I guess I'll have to go with those pop-up ones from the 84's, right -? Thank for the tip regarding the mirror wiring also,I've been doing some hunting around, but no luck with finding a harness
Hey Blackbeauty, yep it looks like a no go with the pull-down,I'll just settle for a pop-up off an 84, but I have to hunt around for a harness... :/

The hardest part was routing wiring. If it helps you I can get you the factory wiring diagram.I got my trunk release off ebay, but that's only because cars like ours don't grow on trees around here.
