alternator wiring
my z origionally had a 3 wire alternator and i have since swiched to a 1 wire. i have read all kinds of posts and seen many diagrams on the internet, my question is do i really not need the factory plug? from what i have read they say to hook up the alternator and just tuck the plug away, but dont those wires need to be hooked up? and if so can the plug be cut off and the wires put where they should go? im more than willing to just hook everything up and tuck away the plug, it just dosent sound right to me. those wires are there for a reason arent they?

Re: alternator wiring
Thats why its called a 1 wire, 1 wire...........
just tuck em away.
If you wanted the stock alt gauge to read when it dies, get ride of the 1 wire or hook up an old fashion amp gauge, has a metal strip with wires that read the through put.

Re: alternator wiring
so i dont really need to do anything with the #1 and #2 terminals? i read how they get hooked up, i just would rather take advice from this sight than random internet hearsay

Re: alternator wiring
so i finished the car and went to start it and nothing happened. i have power to the starter but the solenoid is not under power. in my alternator harness there is a black wire, a brown wire, and a red wire. what i am wondering is if the red wire might have been the hot wire for the solenoid on the starter. everything is hooked up and correct except the harness for the alternator, so now im scratching my head wondering if one or more of those wires are important.
