plastic washer at tear of alternator post is cracked

The plastic washer between the alternator housing and the post.where you hook up the output cable is cracked, if the post contacts the housing it will cause a short. , can I buy this insulator washer? Or would I have to buy a new alternator. ? The alternator is still good.

you wont be able to find the washer at a typical part store, but you may be able to get ahold of one at a place the rebuilds alternators. otherwise you'd probably be best looking for a junk core and grabbing one from there

All sorts of alternator parts... Bought a couple parts for my CS130 there.

http://www.alternatorparts.com/

Don't see it specifically listed on their site, but I would think they could help you out if you call.

If it's for your 88 as in your details, you have a CS130 (NOT the CS130D, which is used on later models). Earlier cars (pre-87) have one of the umpteen SI series.

Should have asked for the whole terminal post (say it's snapped off or something)... Even so, to change it out, you have to take the alt apart, and you need the stator extenders to get it back together again because you will need to cut the stator terminals to get it separated from the rectifier assembly so you can get the black dust cover off to get at the nut on the end of the terminal post.

They're (the bushings) sold in their rebuild kits...
