Is there any possibility that you turned the dash lights off (perhaps inadvertently twisting the **** a bit)? Sorry, had to ask.

Re: instrument cluster lights went out
Does the shifter console light and heater panel light work? They run off the same fuse as the instrument panel lights. If not it's likely the fuse - labelled INST LPS or the like. If so, likely a loose/dirty pin on the cluster loom plug.
OR - when you say you pulled your headlight switch - do you mean as in removed from the dash completely? You may have accidentally dislodged the connector to the dimmer **** when you pulled off the connector to the headlight switch.

i think it has to be the fuse at this point. i might make sure the **** is in correctly as well. the headlights still function properly and all that. its tough to check it during the day time because the lights are so dim but im planning on pulling it apart to put some brighter led's in along with my 145 mph speedometer i got for 20 bucks

Re: instrument cluster lights went out
if not the fuse it could be the headlight switch: the black box behind the **** inside the dash. The switch has something like a 10 pin connector on of the pins being for the dash lights... the switch is $10 (with the bro hookup) to $20.
