1992 Camaro Z28

I removed my instrument panel from the car today, discovered my new instrument panel that I got has the SOLDERED 1-piece 194socket but was not aware until it SHATTERED in my hand (thank god I was wearing thick gloves to get a better grip!).

COINCIDENTAL I don't know but when I put the instrument panel back together and the dash panels all back together, NOW the Headlight buzzer alerts when I put the keys in the ignition and either put to RUN or START. The buzzer won't stop! Lights ON/OFF.. tried everything.. just won't turn off until I shut the car off and remove the key.

The ONLY thing I can think of is PERHAPS because I didn't put the socket back in. (the socket and bulb are 1-PIECE so I can't put back the socket if there is a busted bulb and glass)..

Anyone??

would it Buz if there is a socket and bulb missing tho? I never heard of such a feature..

 

Could remove the buzzer - it just plugs in. Little square box about the size of a pack of cigarettes.

Turns out that 3rd gen Camaro's have a SEATBELT BUZZER that I never knew about. In fact NONE of my Camaro friends know of this..

Naturally I assumed it was something that I last did that started it and that was the bulb. Turns out that it never worked in my car and after I got my cluster remanufacturered, this BUZZER started to occur.. I never piece it together that the seat belt was actually turning it off cuz it would be ON the moment I started the car. I didn't think to put on the belt as my #1 at the time was to see what the heck was going on.. Today it went off and I put my belt on thinking I would have to drive home and just put the radio up to drone out the buzzer but then it went off. I went to take off my belt to see if my headlights were on , on the front of the car and it went ON again.. Then I pieced it together. LOL!!!!

Now PERHAPS it BUZZES when there is no socket as a SECONDARY alert system?? and if the bulb was in place that the bulb would just light up cause it didn't do it before...

 

I've always wondered why I have a seatbelt light on my dash, but it never comes on. I read it in the owners manual too, and it never did anything. I want to fix it!

 

Ha i had the same issue. my seatbelt buzzer didnt work until after my engine swap. now it buzzes constantly with the key in the on pos and the seatbelt not buckeled. good thing i always wear my seat belt or that would have got really annoying...

 

just unhook it!! its just a small plug hidden under the driver side floor ancker thingy. pop the little tab on it, use a torx to unscrew it, lift up and youll see the connector, use a flat head screw driver to get them apart and wala! quiet time , i did mine this morning, it literally took like 5 minutes and that was to unscrew the torx bolt

 

I don't know if it's something different in the 90-92 cars or not, but with my belt light installed in the cluster, buckled or not, my buzzer dings precisely 4 times and then the light and the buzzer turn off. Of course, without the light in the cluster, the buzzer won't go off.

I'll have to look at the 92 FSM to see what it says about the audible warnings, but it seems to me you have a problem somewhere. My 93 Grand Prix and my father's 93 Cavalier acted the same as above, buckled or not.

 

Does anybody have the problem with the sound of just having the key in and door open? Mine works, but it's not consistent unless I push in on the key. My ignition key thing doesn't look like it's in all the way. is it supposed to be that way?

 

So not having the bulb in the cluster triggers the buzzer?

 

Not having the bulb opens the circuit and gets rid of the problem (aka turns the noise off) unless you find out what's wrong...

:edit: I should have posted above "without the light in the cluster, the buzzer won't SOUND off" .

 

well i guess when i did my engine swap and put in custom gauges it fixed the open issue with my seat belt bulb. Mine doesnt ding 4 times, its a contants annoying buzzer that doesnt shut off unless you buckle up. i leave it like that so anyone getting in my car gets freaked out at the noise unless they buckle up (not that theres a lot of times when im not the one behind the wheel)

 

I opened up the buzzer and removed the metal plate inside of it stops the buzzing entirely lol

 

I have a 91, and it's a black box about as big as a pack of smokes...
Took it out... The idea of a muscle car seems more legit with out that whining box! :

It's supposed to be the key reminder too. Mine does that, gotta push the key in to get it to work - of course it's just supposed to buzz with key in and door open. Made a half hearted attempt to fix it by fiddling with the little prongy contacts, when I had the column apart, not completely successful. Annoying little black box!

 

It is annoying,but I just want everything to work like it is supposed to.

 

you can always try grabbing one out of a jyard and seeing if its the box itself thats the problem. im sure you can get one for maybe $5 tops
