Problem with horn

I'm working on my first Camaro, 1992 RS 305tbi, and I've found that the horn doesn't work. When I press on the steering wheel, where the horn buttons should be, I hear no noise coming from the relay, causing me to think the problem is in the fuse or the relay. I want to make sure the horn buttons are acting normally before going out and spending money on a new relay. When pressing on the wheel, should I feel an indication that the button is being depressed? On my other cars (not Camaros), I feel a slight click when the horn is pressed. My second question; in the fuse box, what is the horn's fuse labeled as. I checked all the fuses already, but I want to double check that one in particular.

Thank you, any help is appreciated.

He’s A Soft Touch

You won’t feel a *click* from the horn buttons, they’re Sof-Touch buttons.

To find out if they’re good remove the knee bolster.

The relay is to the right of the steering column.

Use a voltmeter to probe pin J on the relay.

When you press a horn button the voltage will go to zero if the button is working.

Re: Problem with horn

Thanks. Looks like I'll have to buy a new relay.

Re: Problem with horn

Hey, reviving an old thread.
I finally got around to taking another look at my horn. I replaced the relay a while back, but that didn't fix the problem so I took the steering wheel apart and found this.

One of the buttons is missing and the other is just flopping around. Is there supposed to be a spring or piece of metal that keeps the buttons from being depressed all the time?
Also, should there be a current coming from the red wire?
Thanks

Re: Problem with horn

red wire should have a constant 12v. when you press the horn buttons it grounds the circuit and sets off the horn. sounds like both horn buttons are broke

Re: Problem with horn

Yeah, both are broken and there's no current running through the red.
Guess I'll have to pull apart the rest of the column
