Re: HITACHI Starter PSL100 install

PSL100 does not have the resistor wire (R) terminal commonly found on earlier Delco starter setups.
This wire ( usually red ) supplied 12V to the coil when cranking only to give a stronger spark.
Most coils were 9V? and had a ballast resistor to drop voltage down for running.

Your hookup will be heavy batt wire to big terminal on solenoid, starter wire (usually purple in GM cars) to the smaller solenoid terminal.
You may have other power wires ( to car ) coming off the big terminal as this was usual setup for power supply in earlier cars

Just thinking about it
you could hook the coil resistor wire to the solenoid terminal as that would only be hot when engine cranking but it may reduce voltage to the solenoid which is why GM had a seperate terminal that got power direct from batt when solenoid engaged
