Speedo, Odometer not working
Hey guys, I have a 87 TA with a 305 TPI and 700r4 Transmission. When I bought the car, the tranny was about shot, and needed to be rebuilt, so I just got another one out of a buddys 88 firebird with half as many miles on it, and everything worked just fine. Well I took a few test drives and all was good, then i noticed in the middle of a drive that my speedometer just dropped to zero, and has not moved since. The odometer also stopped at the same time. I checked the speedo cable above the tranny and it seemed to connected just fine. Everything worked fine before the tranny swap, and even worked briefly afterwards. Any help would be awesome. Oh yea, all other gauges and lights work fine by the way.

I'd think that both the 87 and 88 speedos would be electric, not mechanical.

I assumed that there weren't many changes if any from 87 to 88 either. I'd really like my speedo to work again, not to mention, i've put a good 200 miles on the car and would like the milage to be acurate.

Okay so, hopefully changing the vehicle speed sensor will do the trick.
Re: Speedo, Odometer not working
Yeah, my electronic speedo works sometimes then it doesn't. The instruments on these third gens are a night mare. Go around a corner and it shuts down to zero, hit the brakes and it stops working, then al lof a suddeen it works again. I am fed up with the shoddy electronics an all GM cars of this era. If I could find some one to take it off my hands I would. It is fun to drive as long as everything works, which isnt too often. Leaks rattles and the such are the norm for these older cars, short of an expensive fix, just replace everything in it LOL.
