VATS system help
I Have a 92 GTA and Iam pretty sure my VATS system is acting up. I recently replaced my nuetral switch (thinking that was the issue) but a month later it was doing te same thing. I am wondering if I wire in a push button ignition would that fix the issue, or is there a bypass module I can buy to bypass the VATS.

Re: VATS system help
what you could do is if yourself or someone you know is able to solder wires and such, find out how much resistance your chip on the key is for the ignition. then go to radio shack or some place that has resistors find that resistor and wire it in with the ignition circuit. this will tell the computer that there is always that much resitance going thru it and will allow you to use any non chipped key to start the vehicle

Thank You, How do I find out the resistance for the key. Is that something I can do at advance auto or do I have to go to dealer (like when I had a new key made)?

What I did wad just go to ace hardware that makes chip keys. Take ur key on and they can put it on a machine that will test the resistance. Or if u have a multi meter that measures ohms. Shouldn't need a dealer unless they might kno the resistance in the ,computers.

Re: VATS system help
Yes - two wires run from VATS module to ignition cylinder - you are using the resistor to bypass the ignition cylinder - so from VATS to resistor end, then other resistor end back to Vats.

Re: VATS system help
Thank you again, so as long as I get a resister that is between the minimum and maximum resistance for my key number. I went to ACE Hardware and all he told me it was key #5 so by the chart you sent me in a link the minimum is 1085 and max is 1195 so as long as I find a resister between that I will be ok?

Re: VATS system help
shoulkd be - anyone with a volt/ohm meter can check your key pellet and measure the resistence of the key (maybe a neighbor has one).
