PLEASE HELP. Many components stopped working

I have had many components stop working at once on my 88 Iroc L98 Auto. The horn, door locks, rear hatch switch, and radio has just stopped working.

I have check my power with a multi meter and found out that i am getting power to the fuse box and all fuses.

I have checked for power with the fuse links by starter and power checks good before and after the links so i know the fuses there are good.

I am getting power to the ACC fuse in fuse box also.

Today i will be checking for power at the source for each component at the switches.

Does anyone here have any other ideas to check? I am clueless at this point.

Re: PLEASE HELP. Many components stopped working

OK. I check to see if power was getting to each component and this is what i have going on.

1. Pulled the radio and checked with a multimeter and i am getting power to the radio itself. I then attached a seperate ground wire to the existing ground wire and grounded it. I got no results and the radio still wouldnt come on. The fuse in the radio was also good to go and all wires were still connected.
2. I pulled out the rear hatch switch on the console and tested it and there was no power to the switch and fuse in the fuse box is good.

I will be checking the door locks and interior lights today and will update the info.

Please any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: PLEASE HELP. Many components stopped working

That stuff and more run off the same ACC fuse. Sure it's not blown? Often a result of the lighter socket shorting out. Are the dome light, power mirrors and lighter also not working?

Re: PLEASE HELP. Many components stopped working

The dome light and door locks went out also when the other stuff did. The cig lighter never worked but i will pull the panel off and see if it is even hooked up or not and shorting out.

I tested both ACC fuses by using a multimeter and showed i am getting power but i will check again. Thanks for the tips.

Re: PLEASE HELP. Many components stopped working

Seems like I have the same problem. I bought my car alittle over a week ago and 15 mins from the guys house that I bought the car off of I herd a pop and the radio stopped working. When I got the car home I found that the horn, radio, int lights, power hatch, power door locks all didn't work. When I bought the car I know the power hatch, radio worked for sure. Seems like you have all the same stuff not working. If you find the problem please let me know what it was.

If power is good, on both sides of the fuses, you may want to check the ground located just to the left of the steering column. You'll have to remove the lower dash cover (if you have one) to get to it.

Re: PLEASE HELP. Many components stopped working

Problem fixed!!!!!

I checked all grounds and fuses and links etc and all was good. I pulled the radio and checked for power to the radio and I had power but the radio still wouldnt come on and all the other components still not working.

I then decided to check all the wiring behind the radio to ensure nothing was shorting out or not hooked up properly and such. Once i finished checking the wiring I found a wire not connected to anything and was just laying there. i decided to rewire the radio and come to find out the wire that was hanging there needed to be connected with the hot wire to the radio. I say this because when i was wiring the radio i seperated all speaker wires from the others. Then connected the ground wire and seperated that. I then connected the power wires together but the radio wouldnt come on still. I still had a few wires from the dash that wasnt speaker wires and needed to be hooked up to something i imagined. I then started to play with them and run a test to see if they were hot or not and they wasnt.

Therefore i was connecting them temporarily to the power wire to see what happened and when i connected one of the wires the radio and interior lights came on instantly. I then checked the horn and door locks and rear hatch and all worked properly. Apparently that wire had came loose and needed to be reconnected to the power for all to work. Not sure why that wire controlled all of those items but it worked.

Hope this helps someone out there with the same issue.

Re: PLEASE HELP. Many components stopped working

My door locks don't work but, I have a stock radio and haven't touched it. My car has been sitting for 5 years so that might be the problem but, I'm getting power to the switch and after(that I recall) what's my issue? Plus my pass. window is stuck some how. The motor wants to turn but, won't. It seems the motor and assembly are fused. I've undone the motor(rivet wise) and it won't come free what's the issue here? Please and thanks!

Re: PLEASE HELP. Many components stopped working

No they work fine. And just the wires going to the switch and after going to the motor for the power door locks. And I got power going to the switch and I believe after it too but, I don't remember I'll have to test it again but, so far no power door locks.

Re: PLEASE HELP. Many components stopped working

Not sure was honestly going to buy new ones and see. And my window won't go down got any ideas. It's acting like the gear of the window motor and the assembly have fused together or something. Tried taking out the bolts holding it in and pulling it out but, nothing. Picking up the glass and pulling on the motor, nothing. It's a newer motor too. I replaced the old one and it's worked fine till now. I can here the motor clicking like it wants to turn but, can't. And I need to get the window down so I can remove the mirror and weather stripping so I can do some body work and get it ready to prime but, with the window up can't do anything. Thanks for the door lock info.
