92 rs hatch pull down relay?

My hatch pull down randomly stopped working. Won't respond to the switch or anything... Luckily, it stopped working in the all the down sealed position so i can still unlock it with the key and put a little force into it and itll close right. The fuse is good, what about the relay?? Wheres it located??..... It worked fine before, my buddy opened it, close it, and right before it sealed it stopped. And i unplugged the fuse and check it. Put it back in and i guess it finished going down when i slammed it closed. then stopped all together. No response from the switch. And when its open, the cargo light dont come on....

Using a voltmeter or test light (the type for testing for voltage, not a continuity tester) probe the black wire at the connector located at the left rear.

It’s an 8 pin connector.

Is there power there when you press the hatch release switch?

Possibly the PO bypassed the relay.

Yes, that’s consistent with the PO wiring the switch directly to the unit.

Re: 92 rs hatch pull down relay?

I've had the same thing happen with my 92 RS... it will go to the 'down' position and stop working after that.. I unplugged it both times and waited a couple days... the first time I just plugged it back up and it started working again.. the last time I pulled the motor assembly and tore it all down.. put it all back together and it started working..
I wished I had an answer to the reason that it did start to work again.. not sure there but thinking that the 'limiter switch' might have something to do with that??

Re: 92 rs hatch pull down relay?

well, it was working fine before. not a problem. then one day it just stopped. the wiring in the car has been very well taken care of, other than the radiator fan. and it was very professionally "fixed" or changed. which ever u wanna put. haha. the radio harness was even completely still intact. its done the stop working before and then started working again. i had a stick that'd hold it and it broke and got jammed a while back. the hatch tried to close but smashed it. could open or finish closing it. we had to lift one side to get it out and then i unplugged the fuse and it plugged it back and it started working. like it reset the system. when i get the extra cash i'm gonna buy a new relay for each spot and see how it does. i'm thinking the release switch relay may have went bad.

it's like it just resets the system. have u changed all relays?? theres one on the left of the hatch motor. looks like a GIANT fuse with 5 prongs. then theres the release switch relay located under the console by the switch. at least that's what i've been told. i'm broke atm but when i get the extra cash or i can make it to pullapart i'll get some more.
