autometer gauge question?
I was thinking about installing some autometer gauges. I saw a dual pillar housing for $56 bucks on summit racing. I was thinking about getting a water temp gauge and an oil orfuel gauge. Don't know exactly which would be better. I do like the phantom and phantom 2 style. Also there's different types such as full sweep, short sweep, electrical, mechanical. I don't quite understand.
Re: autometer gauge question?
I dont really understand your question here, but I'll bite. As far as picking two gauges, pick what you need/want. I've done full autometer in my current build, but left it to speedo, tach, fuel, oil, volts, and temp. If you got one that isn't working, or isn't as precise as you want go for it. (But fix what you got if its broke :P)
Electrical and mechanical are going to be differences in your sending unit. I prefer mechanical personally, but I also wiped out the computer in my ride.
Sweep is pretty much how far the needle moves on the gauge. Full sweep have a greater range of motion than short.

Re: autometer gauge question?
So that's what full sweep means...go figure. Sorry if my question didn't make sense... I'm doing this from my touchscreen phone which is frustrating. I don't want to eliminate my computer, also I don't really know how to hook up a new gauge. I'm guessing all of the instructions are in the box?
I do need the water temp gauge just to get a more accurate reading. I was thinking about doing the samefor either the fuel or oil gauge. (Just want more accurate readings)

Re: autometer gauge question?
mechanical gauges require you running fluids into the cabin of the car (for a mech water temp gauge, you run a thin hose that carries hot coolant all the way to the gauge.) with electic, you install a sending unit in the engine and it sends and electric signal to the gauge with a wire. full sweep have more range of motion and have finer measuring points. they also cost a lot more than short sweep. short sweep gauges are just fine for street use.
