aftermarket Oil pressure/water temp gauge wireing HELP

I have an 84 trans am and i want to install a pair of oil pressure
and water temp gauges on the pillar.
im ok with installing the sensors, their wire to the gauges
and a ground wire for the gauges

my problem is what wire will i need to tap into on the headlight switch for the lights in the gauges. can i splice directly off a wire that the switch connects to - and what color is it

and what wire near the driver side can i use to run power to the gauges that is hot only when the car is running?

i have the chilton manual for the car but i don't understand the logical diagrams because they don't tell me where in the car the wire is located.

any help is appreciated

on the fuse box, theres single male spade slots for expansion. theres slots labeled "illum", or something like that. those slots only get power when the lights are on. run the gauges illumination wire to that and call it a day. you can also use the "ign" slots to run power for the gauges.

thank you, that is so much easier than splicing into a wire in the dash.

you can run both gauges off 1 slot, just be sure to run an inline fuse since those slots arent fused.
