91 Z28 Hatch Pull Down Wiring

I've done a lot of searching and none of the results match the wiring color I have so I am posting to see if someone can help. First, I have tested the motor and it works fine with I wire direct with 12v and ground it.

Attached are two images, 1 of the harness attached to the motor and the other is the mess of wires that come from behind the rear panel. Obviously the wiring is a mess and I can't figure out what goes to what.

The release latch in the console does not release the hatch and the motor does not go up and down unless I hard wire it with the wire labeled as 12v and ground it.

The first image is from the car and I tried to label the wires that I can identify. Odd that one of the black ones has 12v. The second image is of the harness.

Any help would be appreciated!

That's because you've got the 91.5-92 setup instead of the 86-91.5 trunk pull down.

I can't help you, I don't have a 92 manual, and the 91 manual only shows the early style. Good luck.

Well that does help some, still looking for some how-to's. I found a schematic but I'm not too good with those...

I believe the schematic in PDF format, located in post #10 of this thread matches your car.

Hope it helps. Post your results!

Re: 91 Z28 Hatch Pull Down Wiring

When I hook the red-white together and ground the black wires from the hatch motor harness, the motor goes all the way down. If I shut the hatch and then open it with the key, it just pops open, no lift up. The only way I can get the hatch motor to go up is the remove the relay attached to the unit and wire the motor directly.
