battery
I need some help guys my alternators keep burning out I have a 90 firebird with a 3.1 v6. Iv had some many burn out on me don't know why I have A 3 wire set up a red one and A brown one and black but the black one was cut so I grounded it to the chassie I don't know what else to do ?

are you saying you have 1 of the alternator wires going to ground?
if so, its no wonder your burning them up.
the main wire on the back goes directly to battery positive.
of the 2 wires on the side plug, 1 goes to battery positive, the other goes to a switched ignition source.
normally the 1 on the side that goes to battery positive is a larger wire than the 1 that goes to the ignition source.
they must be wired right or it will drain the battery when the key is off.
you can just jump the always hot side wire to the main wire on the back of the alternator.
i would guess the cut wire should also go to battery positive, but i reccomend doing a
which should turn up a diagram of the correct way to wire it up to be certain you wire it right.
if so, its no wonder your burning them up.

Yeah But the power wire on the back of it is connectet and. The side plug Has 3 wires a fat red one and the a tan one and black one the black one Was cut the black one on the plug
