vss question

Can I still get a reading from my vss without the ecm, if not then what other options do I have besides running a cable operated speedo?

Re: vss question

you don't state what your dealing with so I will assume 87 tpi or tbi. the vss sends a signal to the vss buffer from the buffer to the ecm and to speedometer. If thats the case to keep your speedo working you do not need the ecm.

Re: vss question

87 TPI auto, just want to eliminate the stock ecm, but want to still have speedometer working.
Whats needed or it will just work like that, from vss to buffer box to speedometer?

Re: vss question

just disconnect the ecm and the speedometer will work from the vss singnal out from the buffer.

Re: vss question

What if the ECM was removed?
Our '87 Camaro has '92 Firebird gauges. There is a yellow thing on the back of the speedo.

Re: vss question

The buffer box on my 91 V6 Bird is on the passenger side directly behind the dash where the map pocket goes. It was between the plastic dash and the matal backing. It is almost beside the ECM.

Re: vss question

In your 87,... Yes.

The Speed Sensor feeds the Buffer and the Buffer feeds the ECM, Cruise, and Speedo. If you remove the ECM the buffer will still feed the Speedo and the Cruise system.

Re: vss question

I think i have a similar question. im putting the rear end from an 87 bird with higher gears on my 92 bird. is there any way to prevent the speedo from being off? the donor car will be available.
