help with wiring up shift light
Hey guys so i have a autometer autogage tach in my car and it has the 2 wire plug for a shift light. Yesterday while cleaning out my car i found i actually have a shift light i can use. But it doesnt have a plug it has 3 wires, im assuming hot, ground, and tach feed cause it has the rpm selector on the back. Could i just wire the hot and the ground to the plug off the tach? And with it being a light does it matter which wire goes to which on the plug? The 2 wires to the plug are both black and im also assuming one hot one ground? Hope this makes sense, i can post pics if needed. Thanks.

Re: help with wiring up shift light
Check the power plug;
is most likely keyed so it only fits one way to the corresponding plug from the tacho it was intended for
If not keyed polarity prob won't matter

Re: help with wiring up shift light
Is that a pro-form shift light? If so, I have the same one and it is a standalone shift light. If there is a dial on the back where you can set the activation RPM, yes it is the proform. You run red to switched 12V (Gauges fuse), black to ground and the green wire goes directly to the coil.
The two pin connector on your autometer tach is for an add-on light you can buy from autometer that will only work with an existing tach. The proform one does not need a tach to function.

Re: help with wiring up shift light
Well i wired it up the way i was asking, i didnt use the green wire off the light and just spliced the red and black into the plug on the tach and it worked so im happy. In the pic i had the shift point set at 2000rpm just to get a pic.

the light needs to be pointed a lil more towards me but i'll have to bend the bracket so i'll do that later.
