HELP HEI distributer swap
I swapped in a new hei style distributer and i have to hook a 12V source to it. What is the best place to splice into as i am not a wiring guru. any pictures would be a huge help.

Re: HELP HEI distributer swap
if you only have 8 volts at the hei power wire you need first need to check your surface voltage at you battery and then check the connections at the ignition switch. you failed to mention is this on a ccc, tbi or tpi car should like you bought the wrong distributor.

fix your power issue to the coil and hook the vacuum advance to a ported vacuum port on your new carb.
Re: HELP HEI distributer swap
On my 305 with HEI distributor I use the thick pink wire (think it's 12 gauge?) which is 12volt that leads from the wiring block on firewall along with all the other wires for the lights and what not. I am not an electronics expert but I would assume you could find another 12 volt source from fuse block that is hot when ignition switch is both in the on position and starting position. On my car I have an ignition fuse with additional link in my fuse block that is 12volt hot when ignition is in the on position that I use to link up to my electric choke on carb, but I don't think it runs hot when ignition is in starting position which is what you'd want for the distributor since it needs constant power after switch is started and back to on position. I'm sure an expert will jump in on this soon with a good response, but one question that comes to my mind is that if you do end up finding another 12 volt source that something else is using the distributor might put a voltage strain on that line causing problems for whatever else is using it? not sure.
