Deleting Vats, is there a better way?
I have a 1989 L-98 IROC that has been having Vats issues recently. From time to time the car won't start and the security light comes on. If I let it set for a little while then try the key again it will start. I'm assuming this is the chip on the key, either the reader is bad or the chip is worn out. I'd like to can this BS security system so I don't have these issues anymore. Is there a better way to delete it other than buying the VATS module and splicing it into the wiring harness? Can a performance chip be burned to delete this feature from the computer?
Thanks

Honestly the easiest way to do this is to test the resistance on the chip on the key, then go to Radio shack and buy resistors to match, splice into the wire that goes from ign. to Vats, and presto Vatts is overriden

Only " fools " the module into "thinking" the correct key is being used ( a input to the module).
If fault is with the VATS module itself or wiring ( a output ) to the ECM then resistors will do zilch.
Deleting VATS in the tune ( prom) is the only way of completely bypassing VATS
Starter relay bypass required

Doesn't over ride VATS.

Problem is ;
some like the poster above don't understand how VATS works and believe the resistor bypasses VATS completely
It ONLY fixes the most common VATS fault ; the key being read incorrectly or not at all.
Plenty on here in the past saying ;" I did the resistor bypass but my car still won't fire up; why not? "

I have a 95 V6 3.4 and I just bought the Vatts bypass module... How do I know what wire is the fuel wire to splice into?

Re: Deleting Vats, is there a better way?
I bypassed the key on my iroc and still had a problem with it not cranking sometimes so just adding a resistor doesnt cure the problem sometimes. I ended up cutting the starter wire(yellow wire) in the ignition harness under the steering column and ran a new wire from it(column side) straight to the starter solinoid. Cranks and starts everytime now and havent had a problem since. My vats module is still working and turning on the fuel pump and injectors or whatever it turns on but the key is bypassed and the starter enable relay is bypassed. Dont have to rely on those parts now for cranking.
