Alternator or Battery?

Hey guys it's been a while!

My new 1988 IROC-Z engine is doing wonders for my restoration project!

I'm wondering about this issue I'm having and I hope you guys could help me out.

The major concern I have is when I turn my blinkers on, either left or right, the needle on my battery power indicator goes way down everytime the green 'arrow' blinks. Say the needle is smack dab in the middle of the indicator, when I turn my blinker on, it goes to the left a lot. I was told I should get a high performance alternator because my sound system also does the same thin to the needle. When my subwoofers hit and it's tuned up pretty high my interior lights, headlights dim depending on how hard they hit.

The battery is about 2 years old so I wouldn't think that's the issue. Any ideas? I do have a new flasher module to install for the blinkers. If this is the issue then I'm in luck because it was cheap! I can show pictures of the battery indicator when the blinker is/isn't blinking. Let me know!

The same thing happens to me, only its the tachometer that moves slightly when I turn on the blinker haha. It could be doing that because of extra load, and your alternator might not be able to make up for that. What kind do you have?

I thinks it's an ACDelco alternator, just the normal factory one. I looked online and they have high performance alternators for about 120 bucks which is reasonable. And since I have a big sound system I should probably get a better alternator anyway?

Yep. It certainly isn't going to hurt your car to have a high performance alternator haha.

Re: Alternator or Battery?

I just tested my electronics. Doing multiple electrical things at once with car off and car on. When it's on it can take a bigger load with 2 or 3 things goin on(obviously) but when the car is off and I roll my windows up I see te needle go Down quite a bit. When it's on it goes down the same. I had my headlights on, fog lights on, AC on full blast, and I was movin my windows up and down slowly. The needle moved A LOT and my headlights dimmed haha. High performance alternator is now at the top of my list.....
