Frustrated With Electric Fuel Pump Issues

On my '91 RS with a carbed 355 SBC, I'm running the stock in tank fuel pump with the return style regulator. My issue is that when I turn my key on my pump is not kicking on to "prime" the fuel system. I've read on here that the fuel pump relay is powered by the ECM, which is why it doesn't come on, but the ECM is still in the car. The pump worked fine before I put the carb and intake on the engine. If there is wring that needs to be done I need to know what wire need to be fixed. Also would it be easier to install an inline fuel pump and run the regulator.

Did you leave all the stock wiring to relay /ECM in place?

Just run a wire from Ign switch to the relay so pump is powered up as so as key turned on.

Yeah all of the wiring is still intact. I believe that's what I'm going to do. Which wire on the fuel pump pigtail is the power (hot) wire?

The gray wire is the hot wire.

Re: Frustrated With Electric Fuel Pump Issues

Yeah I found the grey wire to be the hot wire, but my problem is that when I hooked the "jumper" wire from a hot terminal on my fuse block to the grey wire going into the relay I still have nothing. This is assuming that the fuel pump relay is the one found on the passenger side firewall just left of the brake booster.

The fuel pump relay is the one nearest the booster.

You should find wires there with the following colors:
orange, red, gray, black with a
White stripe, green with a White stripe.

If you put power directly on the
gray wire and the pump didn’t turn on, you have a bad pump or an open wire leading to it.

Yeah that's the one I thought it was based off of the wiring diagram. I'm thinking that it's the wire part because when I first installed the fresh engine it was fuel injected, but the only thing I've done differently is made the switch to the carburetor. Hopefully Friday I'll get to the bottom of it.

Connect your key on hot wire to the green/white stripe wire on the relay, and it should take off. That should be the correct wire.

GREAT!! That is good to know, it's been a while since I've got to work on it with work and everything lately, so I'm gonna spend this afternoon workin' on it.
