strange flashing lights

lately I've been having a flashing lights issue. I drove the car home from school... about 15 miles... at about the 10th mile on the freeway my headlights started flashing and didn't stop. I pulled over and turned the car off, turned it on and it was fine for about a quarter mile then it started again. Got home and it kept doing it. Cycled the headlight switch on and off. Still nothing. Voltage gauge reads 14

Re: strange flashing lights

the head light switch has a circuit breaker inside of it. if the headlights pull too much current, the circuit breaker gets hot and opens up then cools off and closes causing the symptoms you describe.
someone could have replaced the headlight fuse in the fuse box with a circuit breaker.
extra lights such as fog or driving lights wired into the headlight wiring can cause too great of a current draw.
also, old age can cause a circuit breaker to open at a lower current than it should.
