Must be a bad day for this, mine wouldn't start this morning. Got it hauled home and it just started right up. Scared of it now. But the module on my 89 was up high in the dash hidden in front of a heater duct. Can't hardly even see it. About the size of a pack of smokes.

Re: pass key decoder moduel location???? Please Help

I was once asked how to bypass this without doing a prom, when I looked at the diagram I was like heck ground three wire on the module and its over with, so the next day I go out to test my theory, get under the dash and start looking for the module, well I couldn't find it so I jump on here and do a search to see where it is, WELL gm must have known that if someone looked at the diagram they wold see how easy it would be to get around it, so they put that sucker up where it would take forever to get to, so I would agree with Tuned on this one just get a new prom with VATS turned off and save yourself the headache of all that work.

gp90gta.. ive got my passkey module out now, and dont have the time or money to waste on the prom burning. i would like to test your theory. which three wires need to be grounded in order to send the proper signal to the ecm?

To answer the origional question, your first step will be to stop at the gas station and buy a case of beer. the next thing you'll want to do is reschedule any plans you had for the weekend because your in for a fun project! its not too difficult, but extremely time consuming. in order to get to the passkey module it requires dropping the entire dash... dash pad, steering column, guages and the part of the console the radio and heater controls go in. after dropping the dash, pull the defroster ducting back and you should see it bolted to the backside (firewall side) of the passenger defrost duct. you cant miss it, has a sticker on it that says passkey.

Looks like if you ground A2,A3 and A4 it should be completely bypassed, but just to make sure its a good idea to check GF10 at the ecu to make sure its grounded with the VATS module working.

Re: pass key decoder moduel location???? Please Help

Check battery, check all fuses, if good, ignition on check for power and ground at the starter relay, if it has power and ground put the key in cranking position and check power to starter.

Re: pass key decoder moduel location???? Please Help

The starter circuit, 12v side, battery to fuse box, fuse box to ignition switch, ignition switch to starter relay, relay to neutral safety switch, neutral safety switch to starter.
