Changing 4 headlights to 2
helping Work on a mid 80's caprice classic which has 4 headlights 2 High and 2 low. when the highs are on the lows would stay on.
Switching the stock set up to only 2 headlights. Halogen light bulb with the high and low built into the one bulb. Stock 5th gen camaro.
have both headlights hooked up. with the lows on the lights are very dim and there is voltage going to the high beam wires.
also when only the lows are on the light on the dash that comes on with the high beams is on dimly. (probably a voltage feedback)
when the high beam wires are unhooked then the light for the high beam on the dash goes out.
are we missing something? possibly a relay? Posting this up here because the lights on the caprice are the same as a 3rd gen.
any help would be great. thanks

Wire it up like the Firebirds. Hi/Low on just 2 bulbs & the same sized headlights.

I think you'd hafta cut off the whole turn signal section. Easiest to see the part I'm referring to on the black version.

Re: Changing 4 headlights to 2
endo, check your grounds. The reason for the highs to have voltage and the lows dim is because the voltage is backfeeding into the high beam circuit instead of the ground path to the body. Same happens on our cars when the ground wire breaks on one headlight, except it's usually the high beam backfeeding into the low circuit so just the broken light goes dim...

Do a search or start a new thread, this has been covered plenty of times on this site. No need to hijack a thread.
As for the OP, have you check your wiring to see if any splicing has been done? This might help you narrow it down to something missing or not, also there is a tech article for making your lights brighter that might help.
