Alt wiring help please
putting a TPI in an old chevy truck using the serpintine system and accys
I need to know where to run the wires from the pigtail on top of the alternator (red, black and brown). I will be running a volt meter as a gauge not an amp meter.

unless Alt has been rewired as a 1 wire " self exciting " unit
you need the L terminal connected to a resistor or lamp ( which acts as a resistance) to supply the signal to excite the Alt

Good information but the only thing not mentioned is what kind of resistor do I need to use? Someone mentioned a 5 watt but what is the resistance value?
does anyone have a source or a part number for the reisitor?

looks like gm recommends 50 ohms inline if you install it in the engine compartment solder it in and use shrink tubing over it.
