an odd distributor problem

I had just turned the corner when all a sudden the car died. I thought damn half a tank showing but outta gas?
So I pushed the car outta traffic, tried starting it, smelled gas, so I popped the hood and right off the coil wire going to the distributor had popped off.new cap, rotor, and wires. I made sure everything on tight. It's done this a few times.
what could possibly cause this to keep popping off?
Any help and/or solutions would be greatly appreciated.

sounds like the little keeper clip has broken off-could
secure the plug in place with a little dab of silicone
rubber on the outside of the plug.

A picture would help but are you securing it properly or do we have a defective cap.

Brand new cap and wires. Happened with the old ones and the new ones. Just looks like somebody pulled it off while I was driving.

Could you have a bad motor mount that lets engine torque over and maybe the cap is hitting firewall and getting knock off. Check it out really good for any kind of scuff makes on cap and firewall. Good luck keep us up to date.

Re: an odd distributor problem

No cap scratches. I was wondering if all the f'ed up roads here at 50-60 MPH. Might have shook it loose. I made sure everything was tight, even somewhat squished down the metal thing a bit. Pushed it on til it kinda clicked in place. Did some "spirited " driving 85-90 on a highway rarely used. Seem to stay in place. I guess next time I'll get msd wires instead of Bosch . Thanks for the info and help, I might switch to poly motor mounts.

Re: an odd distributor problem

Just got done working on my wip for today. Removed old hood scoop, cleaned it up and will put it on the maro and get some measurements for the new one. Good luck on your projects.
