Burnt' wiring---PLEASE HELP!---
Burnt' wiring---PLEASE HELP!---
Hey, guyz, just lookin' to move my project aroung in the garage. right now I can't get the key to turn the lock cylinder at all. I have 2 keysand neither one workx. my car had a engine fire and burned the harness to within a foot or so of the wall. just wondered if i need to power a certain wire, or wires to be able to get the cylinder to release? or exactly what the hell to do with it? I really don't want to change cylinders or bypass the vats system unless absolutely necessary, but i will if needed.
Any help is greatly appreciated! thankx!

Still dealing with this, can anybody shed any light on this?
From what I gathered the cylinder should turn no matter what as long as the proper key is installed?
Also gathered the VATs will not matter if swapping ECM?
I've got a 91 RS column with no VATs, maybe the answer?
Any help appreciated Thankx

As far as I know, if you have the correct key, the lock cylinder should turn. How about a little more info on the car. Make, model, year, trans, modifications etc.

The heat from the fire must have melted something in the column. There is no solenoid or anything electrical keeping the lock cylinder from turning. You could try tugging the wheel one way then the other as you try to turn it in case it's just in a bind against the locking pin that keeps the wheel from turning. The keys you have used to work, right?

Get yourself a steering wheel removal tool, disassemble the column until you can remove the lock cylinder, diagnose if it's the cylinder or another component, and replace it with a new one if necessary. They're fairly cheap. As for VATS, it can be programmed out.
