88 TPI Harness plug identification

I've got an '86 Z28 with TPI and I just picked up this '88 GTA. I either have a short memory or the GTA has some connectors that I didn't see on the Camaro, and I was wondering if I could get some help identifying these.

This is over the passenger side head, the wires in my hand have spade connectors crimped on and are in a loom that looks like its wrapped up with the EST connector.

These two connectors are burned from laying against the header I would think. The only thing missing from the serpentine system currently is the water pump and smog pump. Do these look like smog pump connectors?

These three connectors are behind the drivers side head at the firewall. There is a 4 pin, a 1 pin, and a 2 pin. Is the 1 pin for the knock sensor? This is a 1969 350 block/heads so it's not going to have a knock sensor provision.

There are 2 connectors in this pic. The longer one poking out of the loom looks similar to the coolant gauge sender on my Camaro. The single pin connector over the master cylinder reservoir I'm not sure about. The O2 sensor is dangling out of the header on this side, so that could possibly be what plugs into the single pin connector.

Thanks!

The plugs you think are smog were for the AIR divertor valve.

All SBC have provision for a knock sensor.
Knock sensor is fitted in place of a block drain plug (either side ) that are present on all SBC's

Thanks for the info, vetteoz. I'll try to dig up some wiring diagrams to identify the others.

Re: 88 TPI Harness plug identification

I was working in the dark tonight, but I was able to identify some of the plugs that I wasn't sure about.

In the last pic, the single wire connector above the master cyl. is for the O2. The wire looks black, but its purple.

I found the knock sensor plug laying down on the inner fender beside the header.

In the second pic, the left most plug is for my distributor. Not sure about the single wire plug. The one on the right should be for my MAT under the intake.

The harness should have a total of 10 "injector" like plugs, correct? I have a 5th one on each bank; the passenger side extra connector is for the cold start switch, and the one on the drivers side is actually for the injector?

I did notice a problem; I have absolutely NO plug for my MAF. It had to have been cut out. Tomorrow morning I'm going to remove the entire harness, trace every wire, and see what else I'm looking at repairing before my HSR arrives.

Re: 88 TPI Harness plug identification

I started investigating my harness further this morning. My C100 is corroded green on the bottom pins, and it looks like there was water pooled up here at one point. There is a lot of debris piled at least an inch thick.

Back to the other side, I found my MAF connector! It was tucked inbetween the fender and the vapor canister. I could be wrong, but I seem to remember this being routed in the same bundle as the plugs going to the TB on my Camaro. Anyway, I'm happy that it's not hacked up.

Re: 88 TPI Harness plug identification

I think I've got most of my wiring figured out now, but I was wondering if someone could help me out with a request. One thing I do not see is the plug for the ignition coil. The 88 if I understand correctly uses the small cap distributor.

Can anyone show me what the connector looks like, and where in the harness it would be?

Re: 88 TPI Harness plug identification

I'm back at my wiring again. I've got it all down I think, other than the ignition coil still.

Over the center of my bellhousing, I've got a 2 wire connector- pink with a black stripe, and gray. The connector is black with two round male prongs.

The coil should be pink/white, and the connector should be gray and fit/interlock with the wire to the distributor.

Could the one I have be for my coil, and someone has changed the plug for some reason? Or is it for something entirely different?

Re: 88 TPI Harness plug identification

The pink wire to the coil should be a thicker wire, shouldn't it? I might have figured out what the deal is. There is some mickey-moused wiring cut/taped/spliced up. I think I'm going to find my coil wires when I untape that mess.

That still leaves my above mentioned connector; could it be EGR related?

EDIT: Yes, its for the EGR solenoid.
