No power to radio. 88 GTA digi dash

So the other day, car dies on the road. No power to ANYTHING but the headlights ( which didn't lift up since the electric motor had no power )

Found a broken wire ( assuming from heat over the course of a long time ) on the starter solenoid after doing a little research. Replaced that ( fusable link is still intact ) and everything is working again except the radio...

Unfortunately, the windows were down the day it died and it thunderstormed like a sonuva gun very early the next morning. Woke up in the middle of it ( with the interior of the car already pretty soaked ) and covered it up with a tarp.

So after following what I'm assuming to be the radio power wires....they go into the driver side door......

Now I'm no mechanic, but that does NOT sound right to me. Assuming that IS the case though, it would make sense that I wouldn't have power because most likely something shorted out during that rain.

Any reason besides my hunch that I wouldn't have power to ONLY the radio?

Checked the fuses and pulled the radio to make sure everything was connected ( and no rain couldn't have gotten into the radio compartment. Just the doors and seats were wet )

I know you physically looked at the fuse however
use a voltmeter or test light
(the type for testing for voltage, not a continuity tester) to probe both sides of the RADIO fuse.

Is there power on both sides?

If yes, and if you have an ARC fuse, check it the same way.

Is there power on both sides?

If yes, probe the wires at the back of the radio to make sure the memory and power lines have power.

Drivers side of the car, rear of the battery, there is an orange wire, inline fuse, check that! It feeds the ecm, fuel pump.

Inline fuse is good. If it wasn't, the car wouldn't start. Had that problem a while ago.

Re: No power to radio. 88 GTA digi dash

Sorry for the long wait on an update.

Definitely not a problem with the fuse. I don't know why I didn't try this before, but I simply pulled the fuse for the gauges and popped it into the radio slot to see if that would turn the radio on. Also tried a 30amp since I had one laying around. No dice.

I DID notice sometimes when driving around at night, I can see the screen of the radio lit up ever so dimly ( Not a fancy touch screen radio or anything. Just $50 Autozone radio with a CD player ). If I press the power button, it shuts off until I turn the car off and start it again.

Had a friend come over and test the power wires with a voltmeter and it read around 3v. Aren't most electronics in a car supposed to be around 12v? Could I have possibly damaged / loosened another fusable link wire when I replaced the burn one initially? Seems odd that JUST the radio would be out if that were the case.

OK so you’re getting only 3 volts to the radio - not good.

The Fusible Link is not the problem.

Using a voltmeter measure at the RADIO fuse, and the ARC fuse if so equipped.

What are the voltages?
