Voltage Gauge Reading Low
Voltage Gauge Reading Low
So I got my 92 Camaro RS about a month and a half ago, and it has been giving me problems since. Brake calipers seized, axle leaking fluid, and quite a few electronics errors. Now brakes are good, axle is good, but I cannot get these electrical problems sorted out. I have a new alternator, battery, and starter. The car will start and run at 12 volts or so according to my dash. Lights, venting air and such drops it even further. I had it fine for a month or so before, running at about 13.5 volts, but one day while I was driving it dropped to the aforementioned 12. It seems run until the battery gets low then quit out on me. Ive checked fuses, cleaned the battery cables to make sure theyre making good contact, battery is grounded alright, wire to the back of alternator is seated fine. At this point I dont know what else to do. Any help would be appreciated.

I would take your alternator back. Sounds like it isn't putting out enough.

I had to take two back before I got one that worked. Edward.

It did work fine for a month or so, maybe it just cut out? I'll try and get it sent back tomorrow. I should also note that I pulled it out of the car and it test ok at the auto parts store, but I've heard those dont put enough draw on it.

Re: Voltage Gauge Reading Low
As an update, took the car in today and the alternator was pushing out only 12 volts and less than 30 amps. Sending it back and getting a new one. Hopefully that solves my problems. That will teach me to pull stuff off and trust a sensor when its not hooked up to my actual car.
