Firebird Ignition switch starter help
I installed new lock cylinder and ignition switch still nothing. Heres a diagram from what i found. i still cant find if my fuse panel needs a fuse to be able to crank starter. It says their should be a purple wire to my solenoid. But no on the little screw there a thick red wire and on the big screw there 2 black wires.

Re: Cant seem to start 84 firebird
I looked at the fuse panel under my dash and i found the crank fuse but there was nothing there and i couldn't put a fuse because their was no connector in there so i remove the fuse panel finding the purple starter wire melted together with my stop/hazard lights orange wire. I separated them and I split the purple wire into 2 pieces 1 piece going to starter and 1 coming from ignition switch. I put a battery up to the piece going to starter and it cranked the engine. So i know the wire is good all the way down to starter. but from the fuse panel back to ignition switch i cant find why my key wont send 12v through it. I put a tester and i get no voltage what so ever. Sp what could be going on now? I'm lost. I adjusted switch both ways still nothing.! Its a brand new switch along with brand new lock cylinder.

Re: Firebird Ignition switch starter help
Always newbie owners on hear wanting to put push buttons on their starters or
manual switches on their radiator fans and remove the factory wiring
because it is "kool"
Only way is to put a DVM on one end of a wire and track it to the other
On the red power wire into the Ign switch or the yellow starter wire out of it?

Re: Firebird Ignition switch starter help
I fixed it last night. I modified my shifter so i could be able to downshift to 1st and 2nd and so when the shifter is in park the neautral safety switch is in reverse not allowing power to the starter. so yea. For now i removed switch and left it in park. And now it workS!
