Headlights went out on the way home.... thank God for fog lights!

The headlights on my 89 Iroc went out about 15 minutes ago and never came back in. Every other light works perfect just no headlights and the blue high beam symbol isn't lighting up when you flick the dimmer back and forth. The headlight switch is new. They worked fine for about an hour and then all of the sudden they started flickering, came back in for about 10 seconds and then just went out. What could cause this? Anybody have a wiring diagram of the headlights on an 89? I've checked the plug ins under the steering column.

I'd double-check that the dimmer switch is still adjusted correctly first, then go from there.

Long ago I was driving in the early morning on the highway. I switched to high beams and was greeted with blackness. That experience put a skid mark on my shorts.

Ok now I see how the dimmer switch adjusts. I actually replaced it just then and still didn't fix it. I replaced the headlight switch a while back with one from autozone. Whats the odds its bad?
