another hatch motor question....sort of.

my son and I are woking in his car, it is a 1991 camaro Z28. we are getting it ready for inspection and doing a rolling resto on it. in changing out the lights that are no good, I came across in the hatch area 3 wires. that are NOT attacted to anything. they come out of the factory harness. I believe they go to the cargo carpartment light, but I am not sure how to wire it up or even if that is where they go.

It appears that the truck release it wired fine and currently doesn't work, but the three wires I have hanging are two (2) white/red and one (1) black/orange. I can not find where they go other then going to the cargo light. Can someone tell me where the hell these three wires go or can you post a pic? Also, if there is link on how to fix the hatch release, that would be awesome as well.

Thanks!

They attach to the cargo light. The black/orange stripe wire connects to a white wire with a small black plug on the end. The white wire supplies a switched ground to turn on and off the hatch light when the hatch hook is latched in the pull-down unit.

Re: another hatch motor question....sort of.

Thanks for the reply, but I don't have a small white wire with a black plug on the end of it. What about the two white/red wires? Do you have a pic to post so I can get a better understanding of what it looks like

Thanks,

Chris

There were two styles of pull-down unit used in 1991. Early 91 models have a metal frame (where it bolts to the car), later they had a tan colored plastic frame. What is yours?

Re: another hatch motor question....sort of.

I am pretty sure it is the one the bolts directly to the car, the earlier model. I do not recall seeing any tan plastic frame.

Also, I guess I need to clarify something. I think the previous owner(s) did some modifications to the car...by cutting the damb wires!!
