High mount light issues

There are four bulbs in the high mount brake light, and one was out. I replaced it and none work now. I am not positive it all worked before I replaced the one, i know it did last summer when my manager made fun of a bulb being burnt. Could i have blown a fuse? If so this means the high mount light runs on its own fuse?

Re: High mount light issues

I could'a sworn there were 5 bulbs in the HMSL. Yes you could have blown a fuse. Is the hatch open or closed when you test the HMSL? There is a pad on the top of the rear hatch surround trim panel. A spring-loaded contact on underside of the upper hatch makes contact with that pad when the hatch is closed. If the hatch is open, no electricity will get to the HMSL.

There is also a possibility that the wiring connector is unplugged from the light bar that the bulbs plug into.

Clean the spring-loaded pins and the windows on the contact pad with steel wool or scotch-brite.

No, there is only four. And te hatch is closed. I was wondering what that metal pad near the hatch lock was for. I figured it had to do with the high mount. I'll give her a scrub and let you know.

Re: High mount light issues

To get mine working, I had to pull apart the electrical connectors between the HMSL and the tracks on the hatch glass. From memory it's a screw, couple of washers, and a spacer each.

They were pretty dirty, used something abrasive on them, also have a vague memory of putting in extra washers or bigger screws or something to get more bite. Sorry, was quite a while ago.

And yep four bulbs

Well, I was riding behind my buddy who was drivin my car. He put on the brake and it didn't turn on but then he hit a bump and came on. I believe the screws that hold the HMSL to the back window are loose.
