4L60 to T56 - Dakota Digital SGI-5 C

Hi Guys,

I have 3rd gen Trans Am GTA with LT1 and complete wiring from 1993 Camaro with 4L60. I put T56 in my GTA and have 9 bolt Borg Warner 3.27 gears.

I also have Dakota Digital SGI-5 C universal signal control unit.

Does anybody know how to connect this unit to have correct speedometer?

This is SGI-5 C wiring diagram:

Thank You very much in advance.

May not help you but here is a thread I posted when I used the Dakota Digital box. It was for a 4L60E.

Re: 4L60 to T56 - Dakota Digital SGI-5 C

I think that I found the answer for my question, I just need to know what is the pulse per mile (ppm) for T56? I think that it's 4000ppm.

"Convert a high-speed signal found on newer GM transmissions down to a low speed signal to run a speedometer, cruise control, or fuel injection computer.
These speed sensors have a two-pin connector on the transmission or transfer case. One of the pins will be a ground and the other will be the signal. The ground pin will go to the GND terminal along with the ground wire. The signal pin will go to the SIG IN terminal. It is best to twist the signal and ground wires from the sensor around each other. This helps eliminate any electrical interference. If nothing else is connected to the speed sensor it does not matter which pin is used as the ground. Connect the PWR terminal to accessory power. The output connections will depend on your particular application. Here are some typical examples:
OUT3, 8000ppm AC: most aftermarket speedometers and cruise controls
OUT4, 4000ppm oc: most TPI computers and some OEM cruise controls
OUT5, 2000ppm oc: most TBI computers and some OEM cruise controls
Begin with the switches as follows and then determine how far off the calibration is.
1
2
3
4
OFF
OFF
ON
OFF
You can determine how far the speedometer is off by having it checked with radar or following another vehicle going at a set speed. Once you know how far it is off at a certain speed, you can use the push button switches to adjust the speedometer while you drive or use the following equation and then look up the calibration setting in the table."

On the My T56 swap thread he used output 3 and grounded to output 4 and had switches set to off-off-on-on. This was at the bottom of page three. May not be exactly the same for you but if original gauges I would think it should work the same.

Re: 4L60 to T56 - Dakota Digital SGI-5 C

I really don't know where to put Dakota Digital SGI5
So this is the situation. I bought 1995 Camaro with LT1 and T56, but that car was with 4l60 from factory, so someone put SGI5 because of speedo. I didn't know that so I put completely engine and body harness with camaro speedometer into my 3rd gen. Now, problem is that I don't know how and where to connect SGI5, because I disconnect it

If I don't use SGI5, my speedo shows about 100mph when I go 10mph

Do I need to put SGI between VSS and ECU, after (between ECU and Speedo) or I can avoid ECU at all because I don't have ABS or cruise control?

i just went thru a similar scenario, i wired it between the ECM and Speedo, Mine didnt have buffer box since it was TPI. but u gotta find the ECM , pull it out and get to the input wires that are from the Speed sensor and then tap into em(yellow + and purple is - , i didnt even unplug anything just got some vampire clamps tapped em and also tapped the grey signal out to speedo cluster. all done under the passenger side dash at the ecm. took me Months to figure this out but i hope i helped u out so u didnt have to go thru the same headaches.

Yours doesnt apply here, his setup uses a different signal pulse.

Shone, you first need to get the PCM programmed properly for the T56, what the original owner of the 4th gen used the SGI-5 to do was reduce the pulse due to the T56 using a 17 tooth reluctor for the vss, and the autos using a 40 tooth, the issue is that your early firebird uses a 2000 pulse/mi signal to drive the speedometer, the LT1 pcm outputs a 4000 pulse/mi signal for the speedometer, which works for the 90-92 cars, you'll need the SGI-5 to take the LT1's 4000 pulse/mi signal and output the correct 2000 pulse/mi signal to the speedometer.

Just re-read your last post, saw mention of a camaro speedometer.

Just what speedometer is in your car exactly ?

Re: 4L60 to T56 - Dakota Digital SGI-5 C

I took speedometer, engine, t56, and complete engine and body harness from 1995 Camaro, so only thing that's left from 1988 GTA is rear Borg warner 9 bolt diff and chassis off course
