So I don't know if this has happened to anyone else, but my fog light switch wasn't working right. They would light up if i kept my finger on the switch, but they wouldn't stay on by themselves. So I decided to wire in a new switch, but keep the old one there for looks. I went to radio shack and bought a $3 SPST switch and a $3 pack of spade connectors, and took apart the left underside of my dash. If you look at the back of the switch, there are 5 lugs that plug into a plastic connector. All you have to do is take two pieces of wire and stick them in the connector so they contact the lugs of the brown and yellow wires, and then connect the other ends to the SPST switch. Drill a hole in the plastic plate to mount the switch,and you're done! Works like a charm.

 

Why not just replace the stock switch, it's obviously broken.

 

Of course it's broken. Did i not mention that? I chose not to replace the stock switch because I took apart my existing switch and realized the point of failure is a weak point in the design. So rather than shelling out 25-30 bucks for a USED switch that might fail tomorrow, I made my own switch for way less initial cost, and this one will probably last a good long time.

 

my car is ~25 years old and it still works perfect. But you do what you think is best.

My point wasn't to criticize your fix but to point out that your switch going bad wasn't that common and that just replacing it with a new one would probably be a better solution.
