Headlight Switch Problem

Headlight Switch Problem

I am having a problem with my lights. Here's what happened...

I was going to pop the hood (all lights working at this point) and when i pulled the lever the two wires coming from the headlight switch to what i believe is the switch for the dome light (side of the door) got caught and pulled loose. The previous owner didn't take very good care of this car, so instead of just the wires coming loose, the entire connection came off, and I don't know if I will be able to replace/fix it. But anyway, now the headlights, tail lights, dome light, and horn will not work. Is there a fuse/relay i could have blown if those exposed wires hit something? Or could that have damaged the switch itself? Or any other ideas? I am stuck!

You probably pulled the wires loose inside the car. You'll need to take the panels off and trace the wires to see where they go.

Found the problem! It was where the fusible links where cut out, the wires had melted the tape around them and was hitting metal. Thanks for the reply.

It's your car, but I think you should replace the link properly. You got lucky, you caused a short and it gave out where the link had been improperly spliced (which is no-no). It could just as easily melted anywhere along the whole length of the wiring and destroyed a large part of your harness or set the car on fire. Fusible links are like fuses that shouldn't blow, when they do blow they must be replaced, not bypassed after the short that caused it to blow is fixed. I don't know if you've ever seen a car burn down, but I'm guessing you don't want to with this car. Change the link and never twist wires together to make a connection, either solder or crimp.
