Broken wire causing problems

So in the process of trying to figure out why my 92 305 TBI dies randomly at lower speeds I noticed that if I mess with the thick gauge red wire that runs from what I think is the ignition control module (near the distributor) back towards the fire wall and down out of sight, the car will begin to lose idle and slowly drop RPMs until it eventually dies. This leads me to believe that this wire is broken somewhere out of sight to me. I'm wondering if this could be the cause for my car randomly dying or if it is probably something else. As far as when my car dies, it will start right back up, but when I kill it by messing with the wire sometimes it won't start back up and I have to jiggle it until it starts. I'm thinking this wire runs down to my starter in some fashion, because whenever I kill the car by touching the wire and try to start it back up, the starter won't turn when I turn the key.

Thanks for any advice, I'll try to get a picture of the wire later today.
