Well, let's just say this:

GM assembled the dash with the harness before they put the dash in the car...

Re: Dash body harness

BTW, body harness is a separate harness from the dash... Runs from the front corner under the dash all the way to the tail.

Re: Dash body harness

got ya. no its the dash harness that i am replacing. actually i am replacing all the cars wiring since all the harness where all messed up cut an spliced here an there. i decided to buy all the harness from stripped cars. Dont need to worry about the engine harness since i am running a fast xfi unit for that. I got the dash harness, power window/door lock and the harness that goes to the back of the car for the tail lights. I also got the harness for the front headlights with the fog lights seeing i wanted to add those too

Re: Dash body harness

im doing a 4thgen dash swap and didnt get the interior/dash wiring... i called every wrecking yard within 35k and not one has an fbody 93+, so my question is there any other vehicle that would have all the correct plugs?

Re: Dash body harness

smokefan, you're going to need to get a couple of bolts and nuts for the gas tank connector between the rear seats, unless you want to cut and splice what's already there into the replacement harness. Pay attention to the harness routing as you take everything out.

todd, you're going to need to get an instrument panel connector from a W-body (probably a Grand Prix, not sure about the others, but I do know the GP instrument connector from 88-93 is the same) if you can find one, a couple extra dome light connectors (trunk pop if you want it), and you're going to need to find the convenience center (with the horn relay and hazard flasher in it) from a 4th gen. Not sure how you're going to run the HVAC system either, but I think most of the connectors are the same (at least they are on my 93 harness) for the fan switch. There are extensive wiring how-tos in the Interior or Body sections. Most everyone there does theirs the easy way and converts the 3rd gen harness to the 4th gen parts... So far I seem to be the only crazy one who has adapted the 4th gen dash harness to the 3rd gen body harnesses (other guys running full 4th gen dash harness are also using full 4th gen harnesses all the way around). You do NOT need the speaker wiring for the radio... It stays in the cross-car harness, but the 6-pin wiring harness (power plug) may need to be made longer to be relocated.

Re: Dash body harness

You're going to want to look in the dash swap wiring thread for that info... I believe that the 01 used a completely different setup. However, the earlier cluster MAY still use the same connector as my 93 cluster does. You basically use everything but the TCS, ABS, LOW COOLANT, LOW OIL, LOW WASHER, SECURITY, and AIR BAG light wires (remove any bulbs from the cluster you don't need by removing the bulb and looking through the hole at the back of the faceplate against a light... The CHECK GAUGES light stays as it is run solely by the circuits inside the cluster), unless you have an air bag or VATS. If you don't have a full gauge cluster now, you can expect to replace the idiot light switches with gauge senders.

What I did with mine was install one of the ignition switch connectors (4th gen dash splits the ignition switch between the body harness and the dash harness), install the bulkhead connector and the connector by the ECM, reuse my HVAC harness and connect the light green wire to the mode select switch, reuse the radio speaker harness, and I still need to modify the park brake switch wire to make it longer (and to replace the park brake switch which broke on me ). If you're going to reuse your stock harness, I think you only need to swap the one HVAC connector, the convenience center, the light switch, and the instrument panel connector, but I didn't use the 4th gen wiring guide for mine (obviously, there is no write up for what I did).

Re: Dash body harness

maverick, i already have the wiring out of the car. This has been a few year project thats been going on lol. The fast xfi system is tied into the stock location of where the harness is for the gas tank so that part is all set
